Domaine Singla, Castell Vell 2006
23 April 2024These first foothills of the austere, arid Corbières are the Singla’s land of salvation, where you can smell the fragrance of the lively garrigue in every vineyard, hear the sound of the howling Tramontana and feel the powerful breath of the elders.
In the heart of these red soils, the winery reflects the same energy of the place, the same russet colors of this land marked by time. A building immersed in the heart of nature, to better capture the encounter between a family and its terroir.
This vineyard was one of the Singla family’s historic properties, but over the generations and through inheritance, it left the family fold. Half a century later, the opportunity to rediscover it and “reattach” ourselves to these lands is one of those appointments not to be missed.
It’s all about continuity, and will be named in honor of the patron saint of the uncle who made it all possible. This uncle who, for a long time far from his Catalan homeland, dreamed of these hills, these vineyards, these wines. This uncle who, although he had no descendants, had his life’s work perpetuated. Time allows us to live this maxim: “Our dreams are there to outlive us”.
The first vintage, 2021, is an offering, a balanced wine without ostentation or vulgarity. Present and bewitching, it bears witness to the meeting of the historic Roussillon grape variety, Mourvèdre, with Syrah.
Clos Saint Antoine is a rare cuvée, both in terms of its confidential production of 2,000 to 3,500 bottles per vintage and the vintages produced.
Le Clos Saint Antoine’s philosophy is marked by the need to pass on pleasure, joy and dreams… to do this, each person working at Le Clos must accept that they are a cog in the wheel of the whole, and that they don’t want to explain everything. The mystery of creating a beautiful work of art must not be accompanied by a desire to dissect it in order to understand it. It’s good to be able to imagine living without understanding, in the silence, in the feeling of emotions. And just live in the moment.
Understanding that we have to learn every day from the places where we live will be one of the keys to passing on our knowledge to future generations.
